Voices of Freedom event: a reading series with exiled writers

When: Sunday, March 24, 2024 at 2:30 – 6 p.m.
Where: Hirut Jazz Cafe, 2050 Danforth Avenue

Step into a realm of emancipated voices at an afternoon of storytelling Toronto’s east end.

Join us for another installment of Voices of Freedom reading series, proudly presented by the Writers in Exile group of PEN Canada. This time, our writers are coming from all corners of the  world, Europe, Africa, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Latin America, and include outstanding, top-notch writers and journalists: Diary Marif, Tien Providence, Lidiia Karpenko, Paul Kumoni, and Pedro Restrepo

These remarkable individuals, encompassing journalists, novelists, poets, and human rights advocates, have journeyed from war-torn lands and places plagued by oppressive regimes to  find sanctuary in Canada. Their short stories, creative nonfiction, poems, and plays, explore the human condition and pains of our time, evoking a yearning for their homelands while questioning new challenges in Canada. Their words resonate with  themes of compromise, reconciliation, and the enduring power of hope and love.

We invite you to become a part of our compassionate community as we unite with  these resilient spirits.
