GRC Survey — Attacks On Journalists’ Reputations

We are seeing more frequent and sophisticated efforts to discredit journalists. PEN Canada and the Committee to Protect Journalists are working with the team at the Global Reporting Centre (University of British Columbia) to investigate this problem and responses to it. We are therefore asking you and other journalists to participate in a survey.

We know that journalists are busy and no one likes doing surveys, but we need help from people like you to understand this issue. The deadline to participate is May 21, 2022.

The global survey is called “Shooting the Messenger: Credibility Attacks Against Journalists.” The GRC is examining how journalists in different countries experience and respond to threats to their credibility, such as through false or insulting claims about their conduct, gender, or ethnicity.

Journalists over 18 years old can participate, whether or not they have been targets of credibility attacks or harassment themselves.

The survey should take no more than 15-20 minutes. All responses to the survey will remain anonymous. We will publish the results of the survey and use its findings to create practical resources for journalists and newsrooms.

More details are available via the survey link, or this page of the Global Reporting Centre.

Please feel free to forward this email or information about our survey to journalists who may be interested in participating.

Thank you for considering this request.
