This timely and revealing documentary produced by acclaimed director Radu Mihaileanu (Live and Become, The Concert) weaves together the stories of 12 political cartoonists from around the world — including a Belgian Israeli and a Palestinian — to show how their work often tests the limits of freedom of expression. Although operating in different contexts, each cartoonist discusses how they face censorship—ranging from calls from world leaders asking that they be drawn differently, to outright repression. Filmed before the recent tragic events in France, this film shows why political cartoonists often find themselves on the front lines, challenging freedom of the press, as well as the important role their funny and proactive work plays in bringing ideas and issues to public attention. “Insightful and, at times, frightfully funny” (Hollywood Reporter).

Co-presented with the Toronto Jewish Film Festival.
