The Honourable Yuen Pau Woo in conversation with Meghan McDermott
Memories of the Chinese Exclusion Act and its requirement for all Chinese to register were awakened by Canada’s recent proposal for a foreign influence registry. Thousands of Canadians who have ties with countries on the wrong side of geopolitical competition, including China, could be caught in the net. Canadian Senator Yuen Pau Woo has said some examples of how a registry could be used sent “shivers down my spine.” Join Senator Woo in a conversation with Meghan McDermott, Policy Director for the BC Civil Liberties Association, in exploring what’s at stake and what should be done to address the problem of foreign interference.
Cosponsored by PEN Canada.
