Desmond Cole, winner of the 2017 PEN Canada/Ken Filkow Prize for freedom of expression, in conversation with Jael Richardson, founder and artistic director of the Festival of Literary Diversity (FOLD), on writing the black experience in Canada. Presented as part of Freedom to Read Week 2018.

 Desmond Cole is an award winning freelance journalist, a radio host and an activist in Toronto. His writing has appeared in the Toronto Star, Toronto Life, Walrus, NOW magazine, Ethnic Aisle, Torontoist, Buzzfeed, and the Ottawa Citizen, and he hosts a weekly radio program every Sunday on Newstalk 1010. |
 Jael Richardson is the author of The Stone Thrower: A Daughter’s Lesson, a Father’s Life. She holds a MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Guelph and lives in Brampton, Ontario. She is the founder and Artistic Director of the Festival of Literary Diversity. |
