The 150th anniversary of Canada’s confederation presents an opportunity to celebrate and reflect. PEN Canada and the Glorious & Free Foundation invite Jesse Wente, Desmond Cole, Rachel Giese, and moderator Jesse Brown to discuss the values and freedoms considered foundational to our country.

Tickets are $18, $15 for PEN Canada and IFOA members, and free for students and youth. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling the IFOA box office at 416-973-4000. RSVP and share the event on Facebook here.

Jesse Wente, Ojibwe broadcaster and advocate for First Nations, Metis and Inuit rights and self determination. Jesse Wente is an Ojibwe broadcaster, curator, public speaker, writer and activist currently based in Tkaronto. Jesse is a vocal advocate for First Nations, Metis and Inuit rights and self determination.
Desmond Cole is an award winning freelance journalist, a radio host and an activist in Toronto. His writing has appeared in the Toronto Star, Toronto Life, Walrus, NOW Magazine, Ethnic Aisle, Torontoist, Buzzfeed, and the Ottawa Citizen, and he hosts a weekly radio program every Sunday on Newstalk 1010.
Rachel Giese is an award-winning Toronto journalist. She is editor-at-large at Chatelaine and a regular contributor to CBC Radio. Her first book, about masculinity and modern boyhood, is coming out in 2018.
Jesse Brown is a journalist and publisher who runs the CANADALAND media network. He is a winner of the Hillman prize for investigative reporting and is the co-author of The CANADALAND Guide to Canada.
