About this event

The potential uses of Artificial Intelligence in warfare is a question of interest to military technophiles, encouraged by corporate interests that stand to benefit. With the Israeli use of AI in its targeting of Gaza, we now have a better basis to examine AI’s military potential and its risks for humanity. Lucy Suchman, Professor Emerita of Anthropology of Science and Technology in the Department of Sociology at Lancaster University, has thought a lot about these issues and is author of a recent commentary, “The Algorithmically Accelerated Killing Machine.” Join Lucy in conversation with our host, Brenda McPhail, as they explore what’s at stake and what options we have to regulate the use of AI in the conduct of war.

Co-sponsored by Applied AI Institute, Edmonton Public Library, Machine Agencies, Master of Public Policy in Digital Society Program, McMaster University, PEN Canada, Vancouver Public Library
