Raising our Voices: Awards and Readings in Solidarity with Persecuted Writers

This first event celebrated four award winners: Christine Wu, Brandi Morin, Joan Leishman and Alaa Abd El-Fattah. The first three took to the stage to accept their awards. Mr. El-Fattah was represented by his sister Sanaa Seif.

The event also brought together renowned writers to read from and lift up the voices of persecuted writers from around the world: including Victoria Amelina, Zhenya Berkovich, Narges Mohammadi and Liu Xiaobo.

On the Sunday, Masha Gessen and Andrey Kurkov joined Nahlah Ayed for a Notes On An Invasion, a conversation on Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine which brought up challenging ideas and a strong call to action.
