When: September 24, 2023 from 2:30 to 6:00 pm
Where: Hirut Jazz Club, 2050 Danforth Avenue, Toronto
On September 24 at 2:30 p.m. at the Hirut Jazz Club, the PEN Canada Writers in Exile group proudly presents an afternoon of inspired readings from emancipated voices. This event is the fourth ‘chapter’ of their “Voices of Freedom” reading series, this time with writers from Tunisia, Kurdistan-Sorani, Turkey, and Syria.
Featuring readings from Dilan Qadir, Jackleen Hanna, Ahmet Dogan, and Kamal Riahi.
These remarkable individuals — journalists, novelists, poets, and human rights advocates — have journeyed from their homelands to find sanctuary in Canada. Their short stories and poems reveal haunting memories, a yearning for one’s country, and hope for a brighter future in Canada.
Join us in celebrating the unwavering spirit of these extraordinary writers, for in their words, we find the essence of freedom.
This event is free to attend. For further information and inquiries, please reach out to Gezahegn Mekonnen Demissie at 647-761-7252 or via email at gezishysso@gmail.com.
