Become a patron of PEN Canada

In a world where hundreds of writers and journalists are threatened and freedom of expression and liberal democracy face an uncertain future, you, as a patron, can help to defend these freedoms as a basic human right, at home and abroad.

Since 1983, our centre has provided emergency relief and protection to writers in dozens of countries, led international campaigns against impunity for crimes against journalists, insisted on our freedom of expression here at home, and helped scores of displaced writers and journalists start new lives in Canada.

PEN Canada patrons are the foundation of the work we do. Your support allows us to fulfill our mission: to celebrate literature, defend freedom of expression, and support writers whose writing places them in peril.

Benefits of being a patron

In recognition of your generous gifts, our patrons are invited to intimate salons with celebrated writers and receive special recognition in our annual report and on our website.

Annual and monthly giving recognition levels

  • Silver Patron $2,500 – $4,999/yr (min. $208.34/month)
  • Gold Patron $5000 – $9,999/yr (min. $416.67/month)
  • Platinum Patron –$10,000+/ yr (min. $833.34/month)
