The banning of the BBC film India’s Daughter is yet another example of the chilling climate of censorship in India, PEN International said today, as it urged the government to lift the ban immediately and release anyone arrested as result of screening the film.

New Voices Award submissions due April 3

PEN Canada is now accepting submissions from unpublished writers aged 17-30 and currently residing in Canada. The deadline for submissions is April 3. The winning submission will receive $1000.

Journalists who cover organized crime, government corruption and other sensitive issues are increasingly facing threats and lethal attacks in Honduras, with almost complete impunity for perpetrators, said PEN International in a report released today in partnership with PEN Canada and the International Human Rights Program (IHRP) at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law.

On August 22nd, PEN International announced its inaugural New Voices Award shortlist. Claire Battershill, author of “The Collective Name of Ninjas”, has been shortlisted for the award and has been invited to read her work at the 79th annual PEN International Congress in Reykjavík.
