Every December, members of the PEN community come together to write messages of solidarity, support and hope to their fellow writers imprisoned or killed for exercising their right to free expression. This year, our suggested writers come from Australia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, China, the Tibet Autonomous Region, Egypt, Eritrea, Honduras, Iran, Israel, Ivory Coast, Kazakhstan, Krygyzstan, Paraguay, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
Write to an Imprisoned or Persecuted Writer this Holiday Season
Each year, PEN supporters send postcards to over 100 writers in more than 20 countries. Join us again this holiday season to send a message of hope to writers who are in prison or facing persecution. These words of hope can go a long way in raising morale and providing comfort in a time of need.
Want to get involved? You can:
1. Contact Amy Smith at firstname.lastname@example.org for a complete list of PEN’s 2016 cases.
2. Encourage friends and family to send a letter to a writer in peril.
3. Set up a greeting station at your holiday party with postcards and pens!
