PEN Canada president Charlie Foran will announce an important new initiative
Over the past year, PEN has been concerned about a deepening chill on freedom of expression here in Canada. PEN identifies multiple sources for this, most notably and distressingly, across different levels of government. Both to raise greater awareness of this changing climate and to send a message to Canadians that we cannot be lax in our vigilance about the suppression of freedom of expression, PEN will be launching an extensive campaign. ‘Non-Speak Week,’ a national series of public and media events, will unfold between October 11-18, culminating with our annual benefit to open the International Festival of Authors in Toronto. Our campaign will continue as a primary policy concern for 2012-2013.
Please join us on Thursday, June 14, 2012, in the Upper Dining Room at the Faculty Club (41 Willcocks St.) at the University of Toronto to hear Charlie make his address.
