In 2008, journalist Jose Armando was gunned down in front of his home as he prepared to drive his daughter to school in Juarez. He was one of eight journalists killed in 2008. Writer-in-exile Luis Najera remembers his time working with Armando at El Diaro Juarez.

How Free Is The True North?

I discovered the hard way that one of the most valuable freedoms is freedom of expression. In a way, all other freedoms depend on it. If we cannot speak out, we can be stripped of every right, and left unable to do much about it. We can drown in silence.
