PEN Canada is pleased to continue our partnership with the International Human Rights Program at the University of Toronto. This year’s project will focus on the sources of impunity in Central America, particularly for violence against journalists.  Our report will examine relevant international  human rights law  in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama, and recent efforts within the region to address violence against journalists. The project will analyse successful initiatives and interventions, highlight legislative and regulatory advancements related to accountability for violence against journalists, and establish best practices for work on related areas. The project will build on our 2011 Mexico report: Corruption, Impunity, Silence: The War on Mexico’s Journalists.

Corruption, Impunity, Silence – The War on Mexico’s Journalists — the University of Toronto’s International Human Rights Program/PEN Canada report on impunity for violence against Mexico’s journalists can be read below or downloaded here.
