When: Thursday, February 5 2015, 7 p.m.
Where: Shelf Life Books
1302 4 Street Southwest
Calgary, AB T2R 0X8
789 Yonge St.

In this first-ever PEN Canada event in Calgary, award-winning sustainability author Chris Turner and provocative performance theorist Patrick Finn open up questions of sacred cows and taboo topics in the prairie metropolis. Does Calgary’s booster-driven cultural scene silence criticism? Does the city’s rep for an independent-minded cowboy’s approach to business include open conversation about faults and shortcomings? Just what aren’t you supposed to say in polite Calgary society, anyway? University of Calgary philosophy professor Mark Migotti will moderate this candid discussion of free speech in Cowtown.
